She's been with many of the top outlets around the world. The last decade was spent working for The Washington Post covering football basketball, soccer, numerous Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols was awarded two Emmy Awards during her nine-year period working for ESPN and appeared on some of its most watched shows like NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, changed to ESPN after the year 2004. She was also an integral part of ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcasts as a sideline reporter. After that, she joined CNN and Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded featuring Rachel Nichols, and aired regularly on CNN as well as CNN International. More than 1 billion people saw it on the air worldwide. In the course of this broadcast, Nichols reported on TNT's NBA broadcasts which included regular season, playoffs, and All-Star broadcast teams. Nichols also worked for TBS covering baseball and golf broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. In the 42 year history of this award, this was the first time that women were one of the nominees.
